Chapter 1: [ Introduction ]
Well, RST-view is a small program that helps you to spy into RST-files.
RST-view will display some usefull informations about ships, planets,
starbases, target, messages, VCRs and scores. RST-view has got a keyboard
driven user interface; all keys that have any function are diplayed
white on the screen. You will need only ten (10) keys to handle all the
features of RST-view !
Chapter 2: [ Command Line Syntax ]
Well, the syntax of its command line is very (oh yes, VERY) easy:
1) rstview <rst-file> [<xyplandat>|ignore]
or: 2) rstview -?
or: 3) rstview register
ad 1)
Type rstview followed by the path and name of the result you want to
view to use the standard mode, in which the planet positions of the
default xyplan.dat are assumed.
To use the planets positions of an alternative univers, add path and name
of the alternative xyplan.dat-file as a second parameter.
If you don't want to use the planet positions (you'll experience a better
performance if your computer is slowly enough ;-> ), use the statement
'ignore' as a second paramenter.
ad 2)
Type this to get command line help.
ad 3)
If you use the parameter 'register', you can enter your registration code.
(see Chapter 4 for details)
Chapter 3: [ Important Informations ]
Well, you should run RST-view in your planets-directory, because RST-view
needs some informations, which are in the planets data files. Otherwise
you will get some nice error messages. RST-view will need these files:
RACE.NM
PLANETS.NM
XYPLAN.DAT or an alternativ file (see previous chapter)
HULLSPEC.DAT
ENGSPEC.DAT
BEAMSPEC.DAT
TORPSPEC.DAT
TRUEHULL.DAT
Chapter 4: [ Default Values ]
Well, although RST-view reads some PLANETS data on startup, it does not
read all needed, especially no configuration dependend, informations.
Instead of this RST-view uses the following defualt values:
AllowGravityWells = yes \
GravityWellRange = 3 > for destinations 'near' a planet
RoundGravityWells = yes /
ExtMissionStartAt = 20 -- for extended missions
Chapter 5: [ SHAREWARE !! ]
Well, RST-view is shareware. If you have tested it and want to use it, then
you have to register it. RST-view is no gigantic program, so the registration
fee is VERY low. You can register via e-mail, so the are minimal extra costs.
Please use the registration form REGISTER.FRM to register.
| You will get a registration code that is valid for this version and all |
| following updates and new versions !!! |
In the registered version you won't have to press a key to switch to the
view screen and you won't get shareware messages and all functions will be
available every day. ;-)
Chapter 6: [ Thanx ]
I say thanx 2:
- Torsten Wendler (parts of the idea)
- Daniel Kaddatz (some suggestions)
- Timo Hartmann (VPLTOOL 1.01 - the base data structure and some formulas)
- Sebastian Boehm (for his e-mail and FIDO addresses)
- Tim Wisseman
